Renault Captur Boot Size: 536 Litres — Europe's Favourite Small SUV Explained

The Renault Captur Gen 2 offers a sliding rear bench that adjusts boot space from 422L to 581L. Full boot dimensions, luggage fit table, and what rental travellers actually need to know.

The Renault Captur is one of the best-selling small SUVs in Europe and a fixture in continental rental fleets. The second-generation model (2019–present) introduced a sliding rear bench as standard — a genuinely useful feature that lets you trade rear legroom for boot depth, or vice versa. Default boot volume is 536L with the bench in the mid position, stretching to 581L when the bench is slid fully forward. That makes the Captur unexpectedly generous for its size.

Renault Captur Boot Dimensions (Gen 2, 2019–present)

MeasurementBench mid (default)Bench fully forward
Boot volume536 litres581 litres
Floor width103 cm103 cm
Load depth60 cm67 cm
Internal height62 cm62 cm
Aperture width96 cm96 cm
Aperture height69 cm69 cm

The 62 cm internal height is the Captur's main constraint: it prevents large check-in suitcases (76 cm) from standing upright, so everything loads flat. The 96 cm aperture width is narrower than class leaders like the Skoda Karoq (107 cm), which limits side-by-side loading. On the positive side, the load floor is genuinely flat with no significant lip once the tailgate is open.

Large check-in (76×51×28 cm)✅ Yes (flat)Loads flat only. Bench forward adds 7 cm depth for stacking.
2× medium + 2× cabin✅ YesComfortable family combination. Slide bench forward for extra depth.
3× large check-in❌ NoThree large flat bags exceed the Captur's capacity. Use a larger SUV.

The Sliding Bench: A Real-World Advantage

Before loading, spend 10 seconds sliding the rear bench to its forward-most position. This gives you an extra 7 cm of load depth for free — enough to fit one more carry-on bag flat on top of the pile. Rear passengers lose approximately 8 cm of legroom, so this works best when rear passengers are children or when the back seats are empty.

Captur vs. Rivals

Compared to the Peugeot 2008 (434L), VW T-Roc (445L), and Kia Stonic (352L), the Captur leads the segment on paper. But the low internal height (62 cm vs. the Peugeot 2008's 72 cm) means the Peugeot is often easier to load with tall items. If your bags must stand upright, the 2008 is a better choice.
